It was a little too cold for photography on Derwent Edge yesrerday afternoon, but I still managed to grab a few shots before my fingers froze up.
Despite the biting north-earterly wind, there were plenty of people up on the moors. We even saw one rambler wearing shorts!
The Loxley Valley lies on the western outskirts of Sheffield, about 20 minutes walk from where I live. The valley was once quite heavily industrialised but, with a few exceptions, most of the factories and mills have long since closed down. During the past few decades years, natural regeneration has slowly but steadily reclaimed many of the old industrial sites.
Property developers have applied for permission to build houses on several large sites within the Loxley Valley. As this will undoubtedly change the character of the valley, I've decided to make a photographic record of its current state. I will post the pictures here.

I've put a lot of effort into 'not really looking like an ecologist' over the past 25 years, so it's gratifying to know I've succeeded.
