Frying Tonight!
My mother recently lent me some old family photographs so I can scan them and make copies for my sisters. Looking through them, I was fascinated to discover that one of my ancestors had a fish and chip shop on Aston Street off Cricket Inn Road in Sheffield. It wasn't any old chip 'oyl either - it was a "High Class Fried Fish & Chip Potato Restaurant"!
Sadly, the building itself was probably demolished many years ago. In fact, I think the Sheffield Parkway now runs straight through there. I'll have a look next time I'm passing.
There's a follow-up post here.

I wonder if it's just me, but the phrase 'Frying Tonight' is forever associated with Kenneth Williams in Carry on Screaming.

Actually, now that I come to think of it - I remember you using a still from Carry on Screaming in a post about werewolves some time ago. I should have guessed really!

Fascinated by fish shop photo. My great grandfather's brother(or nephew, not sure) was a fish shop owner in Sheffield. My gt grandfather was Henry Sampson Ordish and his brother and his nephew both called William Norris Ordish, was one of these people the man in the photograph?

Roger
The photographs are amazing Thankyou so much
think we must be cousins about 4 times removed.Willie Norris looks quite like my grandfather Frank Eccles Ordish and they would be first cousins as their dads were brothers

I'm looking for information on the ancestry of Benjamin Ordish who was born abt 1820 in England. Family lore says he was born in Devonshire, but I'm not sure. He moved as a young man to Canada, married Janet Paterson in St. Thomas Ontario and died there in 1895. I'm wondering if he was the Benjamin Ordish born in Boulton, Derbyshire in 1821 .... and also wondering if he has any connection to the wonderful photo?
